"The future enters into us, in order to transform itself in us, long before it happens."
"One had to take some action against fear when once it laid hold of one."
Rainer Maria Rilke
My hope and passion is to provide a safe, caring, compassionate, and transforming counseling service to empower the minds and souls of the younger generation. I work with junior and high school students, college students, young adults, couples, families and athletes. I provide counseling in the areas of, anxiety, depression, abuse (physical, sexual, emotional), sexual issues, loss and grief, eating disorders and spiritual issues.
A Relational Approach to Counseling
In life there is certainty that you will experience some amount of sorrow and pain; and less certainty that you will find joy. We each come to a crossroad, an obstacle, and a point in life where we are searching for greater understanding and meaning. Feeling heavy, confused, frustrated and suffocated can take a toll and grab a hold on one's life. The counseling relationship can be a place to uncover, unravel, and disrupt the old patterns of functioning and thinking. During your time here we will watch for patterns, themes, and roadblocks; some which you are aware of, and others you are not. We will take a look at family dynamics - more specifically at what your role was/is in your family. Your communication style within your family and the stories and characters in your life, have had much impact on how you process the world around you. The counseling process can really open some doors to allow you to feel joy where it has not been before.
Life Experience
After a few years in the world, and some hard life experiences, I returned to graduate school to pursue my desire to understand and know more about my self, and others. I received my Masters in Counseling from Mars Hill Graduate School, and my passion for helping young adults was further fueled. I am involved with the "Marci Foundation", in the development of youth programs in Zambia, Africa through a youth center providing a place for underprivileged children to learn music, art and sports.
As an undergraduate college student, I received a tennis scholarship from the University of Washington and graduated with a BA in Communications.
Aside from my private counseling practice, I also coach and mentor students, which I have been doing for the past 10 years.
Theory
In my educational process I felt most drawn to existential psychodynamics, interpersonal psychology, object relations, and systems theory.

Counseling Students and Young Adults
Junior High and High School Students
There are many pressures that this group is feeling: school, social, family, athletic and spiritual pressures all battling to take precedence. This can be stressful, and it is important to address how lives are being disrupted, and to learn how to move through these areas with understanding. Taking action at this stage of life can have a dramatic effect on the course of a young person's life.
College…
Many changes are happening at this stage of life, some are exciting, and others can be overwhelming. Together, we can process the complexities of having so many choices, and identify the influences and voices that are prevailing. This is a key time to become aware of yourself so that the "authentic" you is informing your choices.
Young Adult (20's and 30's)…
"Real life" brings with it an abundance of life altering decisions. Life really starts to take shape, and taking ownership of your life becomes a reality. This is the time to explore where you have come from, respond to who you are, and unravel who you want to become.
Counseling for Athletes and Coaches
Athletes
The athlete's head is a complex battle zone. It is the field on which the real contests of sport, and life, are fought and won…or lost. Unlike the complications of other performance environments, such as music, art or academics, the athlete's head bears the unique complexion born out of fierce competition – where ranges of emotional expression are expressed in a full gamut of ways. I believe that counseling for any athlete is a key component in a successful life, on and off the field.
Coaches
For a coach, counseling serves as a safe place where you can let down your guard and be real. With your coaching staff, players, fans, school and family looking to you for excellence night after night, the job can become one of isolation and burn out. The counseling process will provide an opportunity to examine the many dynamics at play in the complete life of the coach.
I provide counseling for high school, college, pro athletes and coaches who desire to become the greatest athletes and coaches they can be.
